Old/Infamous

So this is just a rough draft of a poem I began the other day. I don't know... I'm trying to avoid cliche and give off a new tone, one that perhaps depicts a different sense of perception of aging and hope.

Old/Infamous (tentative title)

You're famous to nobodys.
Your hands block the sun from your face
and cover up your identity like being spotted,
motionless, at a loss, in the crowd.
Your mouth says nothing while
your body is limp.
I don't want to get old but
I'm already a twenty-two year old senior citizen,
aged by nothing more than a laden world.
We can no longer blame the sun and weather.
We can only blame pot holes, old matress springs, dirty
coffee cups and short fuses.
I will toast to the origins of my infamous providence, and
salute them as my life flashes before me on my way (in)to hell.

HEY ITS A POEM

I. Dear Tuesday Morning,
You sent me in a spiral and I couldn’t tell if it were up or down or Sideways or it could have even been backwards because I started to feel more energetic and imaginative like when I was younger I felt freer like I do on a Saturday which I knew it wasn’t for you are a Tuesday not yet at that whale hump of the week Wednesday which is like the diplomat between two warring states Monday and Tuesday take angry tired steps to get through and then Thursday and Friday you can slide through on your rear and the slides been polished so you don’t even have to worry about catching your jeans on some ragged or sharp metallic hiccup even though that metallic surface is inviting the way it glints like I wish the eye of the girl I look at from across my shoulder every other morning during class would glint and wink like a metallic surface greeting young fingered stretching sunlight

Sunshine Sunshine
Drink Wine
Feel Fine

II.
With jug in hand dance a tired merengue that wanders like pipe smoke of tobacco or maybe a pipe of weed why is it that they always say well he’s someone I’d like to have a beer with when if I could smoke a joint with him maybe I would feel better about the way he ran our country into the muck good luck make my day punk you silly quotable bastard I’m scarred from the lashings of your sharp tongue and they try to hide the red of blood and warning between the black and white grains of film stock I love the way Godard makes me feel like someone’s pulled the rug out from under my feet

Fall Fall
Fast Asleep
At Last

III.
I dream because dreams are the glue that holds my entire existence together without them I’d put my head to curb and smash my skull until my physical head fell apart but I would dare only to do this on a rainy day so the cascade of drops could wash my blood down the sewage drain and when little Susie got off the school bus after grammar school she wouldn’t have to see the blood and it’s a good point you make but what of the fragments of your physical skull and I reply have you heard of a little girl squeamish at the site of bone why no Watson its elementary fear of blood not skull fragments who’s ever heard of a girl scream and faint at the site of a bone Not I Not U Not A Not E Not O and you may say sometimes Y but I only trust consistency because its constant and fact is constant and fact is what a science is and science will save our souls said the lord and my art can only help heal and that image of my skull smashed and the little girl laughing saying Icabod Crane Icabod Crane was a sorry image and I’m sorry for that its just I would like my poems to make you squirm and shift in your seat so the movement of your body would let me know my art isn’t rigid I ask you to put a box around my poems only so the pages will force the box out until it splinters and you see all the little points of what I’d like to do.

Conspiracy Theory

For those of you who know me well know that i love conspiracies be it about ufo's and aliens or some weird-ass cult or about the government fucking over the people whatever, but i of course watch and read these conspiracies with a grain of salt because most of it is bullshit...but i eat it up. anyway, my point of this post is for the people who have not yet seen Zeitgeist. it's a real eye-opening film, it talks about Christian religion, 9/11, and the banking industry and how currupt they all are.
its really interseting and worth watching.

Zeitgeist

So...
for the people who have seen Zeitgeist,
they made a new one - Zeitgeist: Addendum. This movie talks more about the monetary system as a whole and the Federal Reserve and how it is it's own organization that buys gov bonds from America in exchange for money and debt. it will blow your mind, but like i said i eat this shit for breakfast so watch it with the "skeptical" mindset because who knows whats real and whats not these days...im leaning more towards the conspiracies but thats just me. so if you got 2 hours to kill i highly highly highly recomomend both of these films

Zeitgeist: Addendum

Oh yeah...

Check out poemhunter.com. They have a pretty extensive poetry base, as well as a bunch of unknowns with some decent talent. I have a few of mine posted there too, but you should really check out this dude Ted Sheridan. He's got a really creepy/cool way of looking at life. And for those of you who don't already know about a little man named Bukowski, get with it! hahaha peace.

MY FIRST POST HERE - YIPPIEEEE

Yo whatup guys, ManFran here. I gotta say I really like what everyone's trying to do here. The vibe is a good one, not so cosmetic or boring as many blogs have a tendency of becoming. Anywho, when I first heard about it, I suppose I was most excited to see some poets in the commune. Everyone seems to have some seriously intriguing rhetorical talent. Furthermore, it's even cooler to hear new poems and get some friendly feedback from your own chums. This is a luxury I never had when writing, simply because the circles I roll in don't necessarily share my same appreciation for art. So, kudos to the commune and everything it is striving to be.

I guess explaining where I'm coming from in regards to my poetry could be entirely against the point of writing poetry in the first place, so, all I'll say is: what I've seen here is largely abstract. I can't really say I write as abstractly, but perhaps with a more descriptive prose/narrative and a simple expression. I don't know lol. Also, recently, I've gone on a quatrain binge haha. Can't get enough of 'em. But I digress. Check out these two: Tampa on the Curb and Opera at a Providence Hole-in-the-Wall.

Tampa on the Curb

Head in my hands, I'm not sure if I quite contemplate my life
as much as I consider why the road beneath me seems to be
emulating the Atlantic coastline.

In my current state, I attribute the motion in the ocean
of concrete to the seven dollars worth of alcohol that
SkyBar offered me.

Now, I understand that seven dollars worth may not seem
like it could take me a long way on a Friday or Saturday
night, but when you take into account that

seven ones bought me an open bar for an hour, you'd figure out
why I'm in the condition I'm in, and why I'll soon be
crawling along the sidewalk and into a yellow cab,

barely able to enunciate the numbers and letters of
my address to a man that probably wouldn't be able to
understand me if I were sober anyway.

Opera at a Providence Hole-in-the-Wall

50 cents a beer sounded like something I read
from a Hunter S. Thompson novel,

so with an anticipatory air about me,
I walked into the dive, only to be

disappointed once again, not only from the
pretentious college crowd, but also

because of the tragic contents of my beverage.
What could one expect for two quarters

but a cup about half the size of my hand and
a couple of dribbles from a keg of Natural Ice?

Cool Website That Pharrell Created

ARTST

Check it out!

Opening Doors

I hold the door
expecting nothing from the next ghost to trace my footsteps,
save to meet my gaze
some recognition of our synchronous existence
but my gaze falls short,
met only by cold, dark plastic
impermeable to my expectations,
existent or not

I might speak
but my words too would fail,
drowned out by ones from space
pressed tightly to an ear,
far more timely than mine

So I am silent
another ghost
invisible to the well dressed eye
opening doors and moving things about
making noises
in a crude attempt to make my presence known
If not felt

Props to Danny Boyle and The cast of Slumdog Millionaire for taking home two of the most vaunted awards.

Also props to Sean Penn and Kate Winslet for best actor nods.

Wordz UP!

Shuffle through a parking lot
Like a wilted shadow

Head sagging to hush
The severing wails
Of a cross wind

A cause to coil up
Like spare twine round spindle

There is a bush
Its branches
Folded up like a cornered body

Limbs bent back towards
Itself
Something like protection

Though

This submission betrays
Its initial pluck

Of poking through
A blackened
Snow bank

That traversing wind cuts again
Pulling rigid on a leaf
Drawn up as if on a wire

look up

A tree –

Its parts set in disagreement

Its top full
Dense globe of leaves sits
Over skinny lamp post of oak

Trunk a fragile spine
Spindly
At odds with its full plumage

Grown crooked
Runt of littered seed

My neck crook’d
Similar
Head full of thoughts

Like
“Never mind a tree
That blooms full in February”

FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!!

Yeah so there's this new browser call Flock(big ups to mahnig Jamal) and it has a ton of cool features that basically eliminate "bookmarking" and "favorites". You can pretty much tie your whole interenet social network onto one page, logging in here, posting there. If you've got a free minute, take some time to check it out. I'm pretty sure it's even endorsed by firefox or something so you know it's LEGIT.

Also, I've been listening to a ton on broken social scene lately and must find their stuff on vinyl. If anyone spots any let me know!

IF YOU CHECK OUT ART OFFICIAL BEFORE 9PM LET EVEYONE KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING TONIGHT. Aphorisms

So I had to try my hand at writing aphorisms for a class. They were pretty fun to try and come up with, although its hard to not feel like you're being cliche. But anyways, try it sometime if you're bored. It's fun.

Man is constantly shaped by yesterday. Tomorrow should be looked at as a hammer to shatter his form.

Days are casually handed to men like coins after a purchase. Though the hours of the day shouldn’t be resigned to a dark pocket like loose change, rather, held onto like a small fortune.

Today is a bench that shouldn’t be sat on but instead it should be stood upon so one’s head is always above the trudging of the mob.

To qualify your hour with a wage is to admit your time is worth nothing.

Tomorrow comes to man, but it is his duty to pursue every possibility contained within it.

These aphorisms did not follow a distinct form through out. Some of them seem to be truism, others examples of topsy-turvy aphorisms. But anyway, when I had read Antonio Porchia’s aphorism the one that stood out most to me was “Man goes nowhere. Everything comes to men, like tomorrow.” I thought it was a really amazing idea and it caused me to sit and think on it and then it passed the true litmus test when it became an away message on AIM. I knew that for this assignment I wanted to work alongside that aphorism and the last attempt I gave at aphorism is a distinct re-working of his phrase. So part of these aphorisms were born from that specific Porchia phrase and the other half came out of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s lecture, “The American Scholar,” which I had to read recently for another class. In it he talked about a persons need for action and an active life as well as the need for thoughts and books. Some of what he wrote in the lecture seemed very aphoristic to me. One in particular stood out, “The day is always his, who works in it with serenity and great aims.” I really enjoyed that thought and decided I wanted to work with Emerson’s idea of possessing the day as well as Porchia’s view on the approach of a new day.

Joaquin Phoenix Is a Real Life Rapper

More (pseudo) craziness from Joaquin Phoenix. I don't know, I sort of like what hes doing. If it's an act then maybe it's good to keep people in check and expose them to the awkward somewhat, keep perceptions of celebs and ideas for behavior in check. If its a social experiment, then that's kind of sweet. Either way its entertaining

Unemployed? Underemployed?

I found out about this site through my internship class that is designed for networking/internships/career building and so on.

It's called "Linked In".

For those of you looking for a job and trying to get experience for your major or boost your resume, you may want to look into it. It also will appear first (ahead of facebook, myspace, livejournal, etc) on any google searches for your name which will make finding a serious job more helpful. Employers are referencing profiles and pictures to sift through applicants more and more and you don't wanna look like a douche bag.

So if you know someone who knows someone who knows someone, you'll be able to build off of these connections and hopefully get somewhere.

I'M ON A BOAT! I'M ON A BOAT!

FULL T-PAINTASTIC STORY HERE.

Black Keys' Dan Auerbach keeps it hidden

Just saw some sidebar advertisement on pitchforkmedia and noticed the singer/guitarist of The Black Keys has a solo album debuting. I listen to a few of the tracks and it's really shows the versatility of the shredding bastard. Snip-its from three tracks are readily available to preview and go from soft, emotion packed blues("Trouble Weighs A Ton) to some heavy, muffled, bob your head, static Jack White type shit in the other two("I want some more"/"The Prowl). It's some shit I think a lot of us would enjoy so share these sounds with my ears and enjoy it here.

LIFE ON THE ROCKS

Hey folks. Just wanted to let everyone know that our records have finally arrived and are available for just 10 bucks. Picking up a copy is a good idea because
1. The record is awesome and i guarantee you will enjoy it.
2. Everyone involved worked really hard on it over the last 8 months and buying it is a great way to support your fellow communists in our effort toward creating genuine, substantial, and meaningful art for the enjoyment of all

Just hit me up if you'd like to cop one, or go to Luke's Record Exchange in Pawtucket or Armageddon Records on Broadway in Providence. They will also soon be available in stores up in Boston, as well as NY.
Then tell everyone you know to do the same. We need all the help we can get.

P.S. if you are one of those unfortunate enough to not own a turntable...
1. Go out and get one. They are cheap and provide you with the purest possible listening experience, again, CHEAP
2. Don't fret, because the record includes a free download of the entire album on high grade mp3, so even if you never spin it, you can hang it on your wall or something, where jojo's jacket art will shower you endlessly with rays of soul-warming light, filling your everyday life with a previously unimaginable sense of contentment and meaning for years to come.

E Street Band Didn't Play Live at the Super Bowl, OMG

(Take from pitchforkmedia article)

"America's self-righteous obsession with real-time musical integrity never ceases to surprise me. We already know Jennifer Hudson and Faith Hill's Super Bowl performances were sung along with , and now the Chicago Tribune reports that the E Street Band were playing to a pre-recorded track for their halftime appearance. Super Bowl entertainment producer Hank Neuberger told the Tribune that Bruce Springsteen's vocals were the only live audio element of the show."

Pretty funny considering everyone thinks Bruce Springsteen is the shit. Okay, well maybe only New Jersey but still. I could be wrong but isnt the purpose of pursuing a "rock'n'roll" type dream is to play live shows? Kind of makes you wonder why you're stuck at home, on the couch playing Virtua Tennis, unemployed. Fuck it, do it live.

Instead of Making Art

"Most of us spend many hours each week watching celebrated athletes playing in enormous stadiums. Instead of making music, we listen to platinum records cut by millionaire musicians. Instead of making art, we go to admire paintings that brought in the highest bids at the latest auction. We do not run risks acting on our beliefs, but occupy hours each day watching actors who pretend to have adventures, engaged in mock-meaningful action.

This vicarious participation is able to mask, at least temporarily, the underlying emptiness of wasted time. But it is a very pale substitute for attention invested in real challenges. The flow experience that results from the use of skills leads to growth; passive entertainment leads nowhere. Collectively we are wasting each year the equivalent of millions of years of human consciousness. The energy that could be used to focus on complex goals, to provide enjoyable growth, is squandered on patterns of stimulation that only mimic reality."

Yet Another Obstacle for Clean Energy

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,475507,00.html

Gist: Oregon, among other states (possibly even rhode island!), is getting turned onto taxing people by mileage rather than gasoline. How you ask? By installing GPS systems in new hybrids to track peoples driving. This will show when people leave the state, where they've been, and what times they were driving. This system will communicate with then pump when you refuel and charge you accordingly.

I'm always suspect of conspiracy theories and to me this seems like an idea the oil companies might support for a few good reasons. These aren't being installed in old gas guzzlers; only the new, effiecient, environmentally friendly, and non oil dependent ones. This threat on drivers privacy could stand to turn people off from using alternative energy.

I would not want to play the oil company in monopoly.
