Unemployed? Underemployed?

I found out about this site through my internship class that is designed for networking/internships/career building and so on.

It's called "Linked In".

For those of you looking for a job and trying to get experience for your major or boost your resume, you may want to look into it. It also will appear first (ahead of facebook, myspace, livejournal, etc) on any google searches for your name which will make finding a serious job more helpful. Employers are referencing profiles and pictures to sift through applicants more and more and you don't wanna look like a douche bag.

So if you know someone who knows someone who knows someone, you'll be able to build off of these connections and hopefully get somewhere.

Peace,
Traci

Its more of a professional thing I believe, you have know to people who already know people, most of us don't, so it'd probably just be facebook pt. 2. But either way its a cool site to take advantage of if you're in a position too. It seems to me like its more specific then just finding jobs, its for people looking for certain skill sets etc. My friend Kris invited me to it, he does independent film (or so he lists). So its stuff like that, don't really know if its used for part time jobs or things like that, its a career builder, not really a job finder i guess.

not so much facebook part 2, it's just a good thing to set up so you can start maintaining connections with people in your field. you can start to make use of it in internships but as kyle said its purpose is to career build. You can find people directly involved with your industry from current interns to employers and get your foot in the door.

It's all about who you know these days.

oh ok... these days, i'd say forever it's all about who you know. luckily i have no ambition to find a career so i wont stress over this.

Hah, yeah, not so much facebook pt. 2, that was a little much. Nah, its a very good site to find people in the field you're looking for. Like, I could find people who had internships in publishing houses, at newspapers, people who work with magazines or online zines, etc. etc. etc. In line with this site, there is another cool site I had been looking at last semester, www.summerinternships.com, that can provide you with a lot of different internships in a lot of different fields.

nice nice i'll have to look into that site. I'm trying to land something at a childrens hospital/day care facility to get some hands on work for my major.

Might as well work towards the career since the job market is garbage.

how informative this post has been.

Word, that should be cool. Yeah definitely might as well work towards the career, and I figure, if I don't start working towards it now then I'm going to be stuck doing something I don't care about. Putting the work and making the steps now is the only way to make it into something that is solid and something I want to do.
